The familiar voice and the pounding on the door, pounding that nearly rocked the whole room, woke Sophia up from the only place she was really happy, her dreams. The girl picked up the poor excuse for a pillow and covered her head to try and drown out the noise.
Go away! She yelled out loudly. She heard the chuckle from the man outside the door and she cringed. The next thing she knew the door was thrown open so hard that it slammed against the wall and the man had to stop it so it didnt bounce back.
Always with the spunk The man laughed once more and walked over to her bedside. He motioned for one of the two flunkies dressed completely in black beside him to pull her out of bed. The man grabbed Sophias hair and threw her to the floor, causing her to hit her head and begin to bleed slightly.
Aw, did you have to stain the tile? The man said, sounding as if he really was concerned about the state of the pristine white floor. She lay there for a moment before pushing herself up off the cold floor.
Bring her, The man in charge grunted and the two men grabbed one of Sophias arms each and dragged her from the room. A spectacle for every inmate to see, and inmates were what they truly were. When she had first been admitted it was under the ruse of being taken in for testing, to see what made her
well her. Now however she was taken in three times a day for grueling testing and made a freak for the medical communitys enjoyment.
~after testing~
To say Sophia was thrown back in to her room was an extreme understatement. She was slammed to the floor and the door had been shut brutally behind her. Must have not performed correctly Sophia laughed to herself. If those stupid doctors think they can make me preform like a trained monkey they have another thing coming She rose too her feet slowly, her whole body protesting. She was supposed to have shown of her abilities to the meeting of scientists today. Apparently there had been some important people there. Rumor had it; even the owner had stepped in to check on their progress.
She wiped the dried blood from her forehead with the sleeve of her standard issue gown and peeled her shirt off. Long gashes had been made all down the length of her back as a punishment for her refusal to cooperate, crossing mainly over the odd marking in the middle of her back. The source of her power. She moved over to the bed and collapsed, not even bothering to check her wounds. The next thing she knew her eyes were drooping shut and she had to sit up as to keep from falling asleep.
Its now or never Sophia. You have to escape tonight. Theyre going to leave you alone for a few hours to reflect on your actions so get up and go! Sophia said to herself to try and get herself worked up. Just like a pep talk before a sporting event. All of the sudden however she was dead tired. No! Get up! Sophia managed to shake her head and sufficiently wake herself up. She moved over to her dresser and climbed on top of it. She pushed softly on the ceiling tile and it shifted up and out of the way. Inside her little compartment was her only outfit that she managed to smuggle in from before she was admitted, along with a few other sentimental trinkets. She picked up her stuff carefully and climbed down.
She set her only belongings down on the bed and held up the outfit. It was made of a fireproof material that was perfect for her abilities. She quickly changed her outfit and stuck the trinkets in her pockets. Then she walked to the doorway and focused her thoughts and energy on the handle to the door. After about a minute the handle on the inside began to twist and melt while the one on the outside turned red hot and began to steam from the heat. Next she turned the room and began to systematically throw balls of fire at different parts of the wall to try and find a weak point.
One by one she found out that the spots were indestructible, at least with her techniques. She didnt know it, but the room had been made specifically with someone of her abilities. There was at least a foot of fireproofing on all sides. Finally she collapsed in the middle of the room, every wall and surface around her glowing red but none any weaker than when she had begun. She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, putting her face in her knees and crying softly.
Suddenly an insane laughter came from one of the empty corners of the room. Sophia raised her head from her knees and looked around, the soft red glow turning her normally blue eyes a red color. In the corner the outline of a man began to form itself, the eyes continuing to glow red however.
How would you like an escape? The figure detached itself from the wall and walked out to stand before Sophia. She backed away from the being slowly, almost tripping over her skirt.
A-An escape? From what? This place? I can do that on my own Sophia said sternly, her body posture changing to a defensive manner. She rose to her feet once more, finding that she was slightly shorter than this person, whoever he was.
Well you seem to be doing just an amazing job, The figure laughed again, his insanity scaring Sophia slightly. Something that she hadnt felt for a long time, since before she had first been sent to this place. Sophia glared at him to hide her fear but she had the inkling that he could tell she was afraid. He moved closer too her and for every step he took foreword she took one back until she fell onto her bed again.
Listen to me little girl The figure turned solid, he pinned her arms to the bed and Sophia had the fleeting notion that she was going to be raped. Sophias blue eyes met his red ones and she let out a small noise of fear. Her mind was working sluggishly but her survival instinct was working full well. She focused her energy once more, this time on herself. She felt her skin temperature rising, a last attempt to get him to let go. All that seemed to do was make him laugh once more.
Your powers dont work on me, He said with a smirk. Not here Sophia was confused. Where was here? Wasnt she in the same place she had always been? If you dont take this offer, you and I both know that youll be dead within the hour As if on cue the knocking on her door began once more, furious and loud.
Kick it in The calm and collected voice of the lead scientist met her ears, A man who rarely interfered if ever. His voice was fallowed by the pounding kicks of the armed men.
Fine! What do I have to do?! Sophia said, now frantic. She knew her to choices, stay and die or leave and take her chances. She would go with the later of the two. She squirmed against him but his grip was firm as steel. Sophia let her body cool back down to its normal temperature, seeing as that wasnt working.
Survive my little game, He said with a smirk as he turned back into a shadow. His head leaned closer to her and engulfed her vision, turning the whole world black. When it cleared up again she was somewhere completely different. She sits up slowly only to find she has a pounding headache. She sits completely still for a moment and waits for the initial wave of pain in her head to pass. Once she has taken a moment to herself she rises to her feet completely and manages to take a look around. Shes in a huge building, one thats seemingly very old. There is a window to her right and she takes a look outside. The building shes in rests on top of a huge hill overlooking an abandoned town with strange figures moving about. She takes a step back and raises a hand to her mouth.
Where am I?
